I’d spend very long days practising, painting and repainting many of the portraits that were in my studio. Sometimes, I’d spend 12 hours a day reworking portraits to solve the technical problems that I could see within the detail.”\
I really worked hard on the details in the important ares, such as the eyes and the mouth. I always find that the eyes really bring a portrait alive. There is something very special about looking into someone’s eyes – there is a deep connection.
I now have a greater understanding of the painting process, and this allows me to capture the person in the portrait, and some of their character. I want my portraits to not only look like the person I’m painting but also give an insight into their personality.
